A fair warning to any newcomers who are disappointed by how "light" the first episode is: it will be that way for a while, but don't be fooled. This is arguably one of the darkest Shounens you'll ever encounter, if not the darkest.
My advice is: don't expect anything from Hunter x Hunter 2011 because by not expecting anything, you are allowing yourself to accept what the story and the characters have to offer instead of the story and characters coincidentally matching your expectations.

It's not a girl, it's a boy, his name is Kurapika. Also, this is pretty light compared to what's to come, but good thing you already are aware of that, which should mean you have no intention of drooping this series.

Idk bro the first episode was good, and with the ship and a sailor crew it kinda gave me One Piece vibes lol and the animation is also a little older so I feel like this is gold. Starting off with light hearted events and gradually becoming dark is the makings of a good anime.

Starting my first episode of this 2011 version, after watching the 1999. Ngl, its starting out a bit cringey compared to the 1999, they were able to make the part where he knew there was going to be a storm have more impact 😂

I think this version is more smoother to watch, the other one felt like it progresses slowly compared to this but this one but I like the pacing here more, it makes more sense and easier to follow.

The only relevant thing in the 1999 version is the part where Gon and Kite meet and that's actually very crucial to the plot. Outside of that, this version is the superior one.

Ah, for me it's the opposite, I think the 1999 gave more effort in taking their time in showing how the Hunter exam went. For this 2011 version, I feel like they rushed it 😅

Or are you talking about a scene here in 2011? if its in this version, I haven't reached that part yet, cause I'm trying to get my mind off the 1999 version before continuing to watch this, because I kept comparing them 🥲

It’s pretty small but it felt pretty meh when I saw it for the first time .Back in 2015 I finished the 2011 anime than watched the 1999 anime and the only thing I liked was the soundtrack of it especially the opening
